FIGHT ISLAND – UFC President Dana White told Calvin Kattar he had to go to hospital after being outmatched by the relentless Max Holloway on Saturday.
Kattar lost every minute of every round in a 25-minute battle in front of a small crowd inside the new Etihad Arena on Fight Island in Abu Dhabi.
“ The Boston Finisher ” showed tenacity in teak and had moments of success in the third round, but was ultimately beaten from start to finish, absorbing a UFC record of 447 shots out of a total of 746 throws since Holloway.
The sheer volume of Holloway’s ruthless attacks wreaked havoc on Kattar who, although he didn’t fall once, suffered damage. He was so hurt that White said he told Kattar across the way that the UFC was sending him to a local hospital for examination.
Kattar is said to have laughed but did not fight and agreed that he needed to be checked by a doctor.
ESPN MMA reporter Brett Okamoto tweeted that Kattar’s list of injuries included “staples to his head, a broken nose and bruises”.

White told reporters at a press conference after the event Insider attended that he felt the fight could have been stopped in the fourth round.
As the fight was cleared to go the distance, Kattar took 84 more strikes out of 142 Holloway throws, and therefore took additional damage.
But after speaking to Kattar after the fight, White said his worries eased as Kattar spoke clearly and appeared to be doing well despite the loss.
“I thought the fight should have been stopped in the fourth round,” White said.
“I was panicking a bit. I said [to his coaches] he won’t stop and speak to no one. We’re going to take him straight to the ambulance and send him to the hospital.
“Then I went over to him and I said, ‘You are so tough, what an amazing performance,’ and he said, ‘That’s not what I want to be known for.’
“He said, ‘But I’m not going to give in to anyone,’ and I said, ‘We’re going to send you straight to the hospital now. I don’t want you to talk to anyone or do anything. ‘
“He started to laugh and thought it was funny. He’s in a good mood, his head is clear.”
White continued, “Our interaction made me feel better. Everything is good and everything I hear is good so far. These kinds of fights scare me.
“He was perfectly coherent, clear, speaking perfectly. But we put him in an ambulance and had him checked.”
After the loss, Kattar’s pro MMA record fell to 22 wins (11 KOs, two submissions and nine decisions) from five losses.
