The Carolina Panthers quarterback entered Charlotte's Bank of America Stadium ahead of his home game Thursday night in a silky blue suit, gold shoes and a colorful scarf – and wore the same suit after the Panthers' defeat. -14 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Newton has long had an inventive style. But this one seemed to bring out the jokes online.

It was mostly about the scarf.

"Why is Cam Newton going all the way to Thelma and Louise?" The Twitter user @ Kingswitz88 wrote.

There were some comparisons "that were better" to the likes of Queen Elizabeth II and Spider-Man Aunt May.

And more than a few references of Prince.

During the press conference, Newton said that it was time for "I look in the mirror," referring to his play in Thursday's loss. This spawned another series of jokes.

Rachel Nichols of ESPN said: "Honestly, at this point, if Cam Newton really wanted to shock us, he had just switched to his interlocutor in a sweatshirt."

The team had a fan on the Panthers' social media team, announcing the entrance to his stadium with a video and a "S I L K Y in shape"Tweet.

Once again, Newton is known for his sartorial creativity. There was a fez. A few days ago, there was a All the Twitter feed of Batman villains comparisons. He had a scarf and hat adorned with, something, last week.
He gave an overview of his choices last year, when Amazon Original's "All-or-nothing" series – documenting the Panthers' 2018 season – brought his team to his home while he was examining some outfits with his personal tailor.

"All I represent, I want to be unique," said Newton. "Like, Gucci hat, Gucci shirt, Gucci shoes, this Gucci – it's not creative, you know what I say?
