Camar Wheaton signs letter of intent with Alabama

Texas five-star running back Camar Wheaton signed his letter of intent on Wednesday with Alabama.

He was the only remaining committed member of Alabama’s recruiting class of 2021 not to sign his letter of intent. Wheaton, of Lakeview Centennial High School in Garland, Texas, becomes the 26th cycle prospect to sign for Tide.

Wheaton is ranked 33rd in the overall 247 Sports standings and second running back. He enlisted in Alabama in December.

However, Wheaton waited until he signed his letter of intent and the two assistants who recruited him from Tuscaloosa – running backs coach Charles Huff and special teams coordinator / tight ends coach Jeff Banks – both have took on new jobs elsewhere last month.

Oklahoma, who had been Wheaton’s other finalist, had always been considered in play for Wheaton.

Wheaton’s signing with Alabama means Tide’s 2021 class is the highest-rated in 247 Sports ranking history, overtaking Florida’s in 2010.

Wednesday is national signing day, but Alabama’s job was mostly completed early in the signing period in December, when it received letters of intent from 24 prospects. Many of them are already enrolled in university.
