Responding to the tweets, Cabello said the intention was for the dancer to look like a character with a bad tan.
On Saturday afternoon, Cabello shared a statement from the iPhone Notes app that said, “Hey! So this guy was just supposed to be a white man with a terrible tan. Everyone in the portrayal had to be Latin. There’s whites, African Americans, Latins, etc. and so the point was also not to try to make everyone seem Latin.
“The goal was to try and make each person look like an ’80s character like in the video, including a white guy with a terrible orange tan,” Cabello wrote. Billboard contacted a Cabello representative for further comment.
The singer’s tweet also included a screenshot of the dancer’s Instagram story, where he posted a selfie with the caption “In case you missed my spray tan last night on @jimmyfallon with @camila_cabello.”
In another tweet, Cabello shared a clip from the Fall on performance and said: “in my team we are trying to create a culture of kindness, joy and love and you can feel it this week. none of this would be possible without the dream team making it possible and the fans who continue to support. “
“Don’t Go Yet” premiered Friday. This is his first new music since the release of his second album, 2019’s Romance.
