Salmonella worries about Goldfish Crackers Recall

Salmonella fears prompted a mbad recall of the Goldfish Crackers flavored snack snack in the United States

Pepperidge Farms, the brand's owner, announced Monday the recall of about 3.3 million units of the product.

One of its suppliers warned that whey powder used as seasoning may contain bacteria, which can cause illness and, in some cases, can be life threatening.

Food giants Mondelez and Kelloggs recently recalled salmonella-prone products. a press release, Pepperidge Farms revealed that the four varieties of goldfish crackers affected, as well as the date of sale of the units to be recalled.

There have been no reports of clients' illness, said a spokesman. Varieties:

Mondelez announced a recall of Ritz products over the weekend due to fears over the whey powder ingredient. Last month, Kelloggs recalled 1.1 million packets of Honey Smacks cereals.

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is currently investigating an outbreak of Salmonella linked to sliced ​​melon. By June 19, 70 people in seven states had been infected, the FDA said.

And in January, the French company Lactalis recalled more than 12 million cans of baby milk powder in 83 countries after the discovery of a salmonella bacteria in a plant.

Salmonella bacteria can cause fever, stomach cramps, and diarrhea and can be fatal in people with weakened immune systems.

Usually however, the infection lasts less than a week and does not require treatment.
