BEFORE JC. health authorities send warning to parents after China recalled vaccines

Health officials in BC warn parents of toddlers who were vaccinated in parts of China last year that they might need to return to the doctor's office.

The warning from the BC Center for Disease Control (BC CDC) targets two batches of DPT vaccines (diphtheria, tetanus and whooping cough, or whooping cough) who were recalled in October 2017 after failing to tests.

According to the center, children vaccinated in the city of Chongqing or in Shandong or Hebei provinces two years old or younger may not be not fully vaccinated. They are immune to the disease and may require additional vaccinations.

Parents are advised to check their immunization records specifically for vaccinations that were administered between March and October 2017 and to contact local health authorities

. Changsheng Biotechnology, the company that produced one of the vaccines, is at the heart of a national scandal after it was revealed last week that the company has falsified production records and badysis while manufacturing rabies vaccines.

Chinese media reported that more than 250,000 doses of DPT vaccine had been sold before being recalled.
