"We always say that there are things we can not control," says Dr. Ghosh. "Age and family history are uncontrollable, but we control a lot."
According to Dr. Ghosh, lifestyle choices can help reduce your risk of bad cancer. Maintain a healthy weight, exercise regularly, do not smoke, and limit your alcohol intake. Screening for early detection is also essential.
"We always recommend starting mammography screening at age 40 for our general risk population, so if you do not have a family history or any other known risk factor, it's reasonable" , says Dr. Ghosh.
Women at higher risk or those with dense bads may benefit from 3D mammography, MRI or bad molecular imaging. And all women should continue to perform bad self-exams to look for changes.
