After December 31, 2018, the Canadian Cancer Society will not accept more donations of hair, but rather synthetic wigs.
Since 2006, the Canadian Cancer Society has partnered with Pantene and the American Cancer Society as part of the Beautiful Lengths program to collect donated hair and make natural hair wigs for cancer patients. .
"In recent years, synthetic hair technology has improved dramatically, giving synthetic wigs a more realistic feel, making them lighter, cooler to wear, and easier to style," said the Canadian Cancer Society. . "Because of these advances, patients have shared the fact that synthetic wigs are the preferred wig choice for many."
Synthetic wigs also cost less to buy for patients.
Although donations are no longer accepted in 2019, the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program will continue to provide natural hair wigs until 2022.
