Cannabis store hopes to settle in downtown Kitchener

A local cannabis retailer is eager to enter the market.

The Magyar is the founder of Waterloo Cannabis Co.

He and some silent partners have already reserved space for their store in downtown Kitchener.

But they are not ready to divulge this place for now.

The company does its homework, although private cannabis stores are not expected to open until April.

"We've looked at other applications and processes from other provinces that allow private retailing and we're ready to switch," Magyar told KitchenerToday.com.

They are now waiting for more information from the province on the application process, which could be announced later this month.

"In December, it looks like it's time to take the lead." Magyar added.

At present, the only place where you can buy legal cannabis in the province is online.

And the launch of the Ontario Cannabis Store has been difficult.

The province's ombudsman has received over 1,000 customer complaints regarding delivery delays, as well as poor customer service at the OCS.

Magyar is still waiting for his pot that he ordered on October 17, the day he became legal in this country.

"I see this as a positive result, in that it is kind of the result of Doug Ford (the Prime Minister) making the last-minute change to the retail sector. .. I consider it a long term loss … long term gain. " he explained.

"The private retail model is so much better for the everyday consumer, there will be a better selection, and I really believe that private retailers will be able to do it a lot better."

Magyar adds that retailers, like him, will also be able to better explain the product.

"They are going to need real experts, who are really very keen to help others … I am very excited."

He is also excited about the growth of employment.

If Waterloo Cannabis Co. gets the green light, the company could have between 10 and 20 employees, according to Magyar.
