Rona stores in Newfoundland and Labrador will close in January, according to several employees in the renovation chain.

Some employees learned about it during a meeting on Sunday night at the Rona store of O 'Avenue Leary in St. John's.

Some left this meeting in tears.

Hawco told employees that stores across the province would close on January 27, 2019.

"It's really a shame for the people who literally survive this job."

Employees have not received any indication of Sunday's meeting, Hawco said.
