The flu has arrived in Waterloo region.

Region of Waterloo Public Health said it has received its first lab-confirmed flu case of the season.

The tweet also reminded residents of the flu shot is free for anyone in Ontario who is six months old or older. The region is hosting flu shot clinics for families with children, by appointment, starting Thursday in Waterloo at 99 Regina St. S.

Others are urged to see their healthcare providers, pharmacies and community clinics.

The news comes less than a week after Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health Unit announced in Guelph their first lab-confirmed case of the flu.

They are expected to report this year's fluids compared to major flu compared to last year.

There were 302 deaths directly attributed to influenza in Canada last year, including nine children. Two of those children, aged 12 and 7, were from Guelph.
