Emilie was wearing colored contact lenses as part of her Halloween costume, but she woke up with agony the next day after the holiday accessory left her damaged corneas.
An 11-year-old mother went blind for four days after wearing colored contact lenses for Halloween. Émilie Turcotte awoke with agony screaming that her eyes were "burning like fire" the day after her ability to be mistreated with friends.
Mom Julie opened Emily's crying eyelids with her fingers and said that her eyes were "blood red". She told the Montreal Journal of her local newspaper, "For four days we were so scared, she could not see anything, all for Halloween contact lenses."
Emilie gradually regained her sight, but doctors ordered her to wear sunglbades for a month to allow her damaged corneas to heal.
Now, her mother warns other parents of the danger of lenses, which are commonly available in Halloween costumes and which have been worn by celebrities such as Kylie Jenner.
Emilie, from Blainville, a suburb of Montreal, was one of six friends who bought similar suit lenses.
She took them about four hours to school and then took them out to dinner.
Then she carried them again to be mistreated with friends and removed them before falling asleep.
The doctors explained that the lenses had damaged his corneas.
"When you lose your sight, she can not be replaced," her mother warned. "Contact lenses are a good disguise, but at what price?"
Emilie's friends have not suffered any perverse effects.
Canadian eye care specialists are calling for a ban on the sale of colored contact lenses, except for medical necessity.
Eric Poulin, President of the Quebec Association of Optometrists, said: "This is a medical product that should be treated as such. They are sold everywhere, but they should not be. "
