At the end of last year, scientists discovered "Oumuamua, who had crossed our solar system after arriving from another star. The object has been something of a mystery to scientists, with theories about what goes from a comet or an asteroid to an alien vessel. However, the NASA space agency has revealed more information.
By using the Spitzer Space Telescope in November 2017, two months after the closest approach, NASA did not spot the object, which in fact provided them with much more information.
As NASA was not able to see the space rock with the telescope, it limited the size of Oumuamua, according to a new article published in the Astronomical Journal and co-authored by scientists from the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of the NASA in Pasadena, California.
This confirms the theory that a relatively small asteroid is pushed by gas blowing, which gives it a boost.
David Trilling, lead author of the new study and professor of astronomy at Northern Arizona University, said: "" Oumuamua was filled with surprises from the first day, so we can not wait to see what Spitzer could show.
"The fact that Oumuamua is too small to be detected by Spitzer is actually a very valuable result."
The strange acceleration of the object has led some to believe that the asteroid was a foreign technology.
Experts at the Smithsonian Astrophysics Center at Harvard, Shmuel Bialy and Abraham Loeb, explained that "Oumuamua could have been sent by aliens to explore other galaxies.
Today, towards the end of October, Professor Loeb told Universe: "We explain Oumuamua 's excessive acceleration away from the sun, result of the force exerted by the sun on its surface.
"In order for this force to explain the measured excess acceleration, the object must be extremely thin, in the order of a fraction of a millimeter in thickness but several tens of meters.
"This makes the object light for its surface and allows it to act like a light sail.
"Its origin could be natural (on the interstellar or proto-planetary medium disks) or artificial (as a probe sent for a reconnaissance mission in the inner region of the solar system)."
NASA has now basically refuted that.
Even before NASA's results, extraterrestrial theory was widely criticized.
The astronomer who discovered the asteroid, Robert Weryk, criticized the extraterrestrial theory, calling it "wild" and "exotic."
Mr. Weryk told CBC's Afternoon Drive: "I think it's a remnant of another solar system. It's just something that has fallen on us, and we were very lucky to have used the telescope that night and to have looked in that direction.
"This has been theoretically predicted for decades, but we have never seen it before, until we see another, there are many questions we can not answer."
It is thought that this strange cigar-shaped space rock has wandered among the stars for hundreds of millions of years and that it is the first foreign object to be spotted in our solar system.
"Oumuamua is about 400 meters long and is dark red in color. It was spotted by the Pan-STARRS1 telescope in Hawaii on October 19, 2017, traveling at a speed of 95,000 km / h.
