A number of restaurants in New Hampshire combine to reduce waste and protect the environment by getting rid of plastic straws or limiting their use.
Plastic straws can not be used recycled and often end up in landfills and the ocean. Advocates say the reduction of how many are used is a small change and an easy way to prevent pollution.

Dagostino felt compelled to do something, so she partnered with Sustainable Seacoast, an organization that helps restaurants reduce their impact on the environment. Three months ago, BRGR Bar switched to a "straw on demand" policy.
"He is always available," said Dagostino. "If you want a straw, you can always get one.We also do something where if you bring your own reusable straw, we give you 10% off your bill."

"All our packaging is either compostable, recyclable, biodegradable or reusable," said Stefanie Ramey, Executive Director.
Ramey said that customers appreciate what they are trying to do.

The Blue Ocean Society said that more than 2,000 straws had been collected during beach cleanups last year.
