Parsnip poison causes severe burns, blisters on the woman's legs

ESSEX, Vt. – A woman was found with severe burns and blisters on her legs after encountering an invasive plant in Vermont.

Charlotte Murphy says that she developed painful blisters during the night after brushing against the parsnip poison. Murphy said the blisters were so bad that she had to go to the hospital to see a burn specialist.

The Esbad woman learned that her injuries were comparable to second degree burns and that they were caused by the invasive plant. The Vermont Department of Health says that sap in parsnips has a chemical reaction with the sun that causes accelerated burns. He says people should wear pants and long sleeves when they are in tall grbad.
