Salvation Army is seeking volunteers for its ‘Red Kettle’ drive

Each and every year at this time, representatives of the Salvation Army are getting ready to set up their “Christmas Kettles” at strategic locations throughout the area.

Brian Greadall, who serves as a volunteer coordinator for the Red Kettle Campaign, is looking for some help.

Some six locations will require volunteer staff to make the program work, says Greadall.

Those locations include six locations in Sarnia: Wal-Mart, the Great Canadian Superstore, Giant Tiger (London Road location), Canadian Tire, and the Exmouth Street Metro.

Two Corunna locations—No Frills and Foodland—are also on the list.

The campaign runs through December 24 but there are no Sundays involved.

Greadall is looking for volunteers who will serve a two-hour shift from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Last year’s campaign raised $126,593.31, money that is used for the Salvation Army’s local Family Services and Food Bank programs.

“On average we help between 600 and 800 adults and children each month,” said Greadall, who says it costs about $7,500 a month to run the organization’s food bank.

The Salvation Army also helps people with eyeglbades, medical, dental, emergency shelter, utilities and other emergency situations that arise.

Those interested in serving should contact Greadall at (519) 402-6867.
