UPDATE: 34 rescued from a whale watching boat in the Strait of Georgia
A travel agency says the ship had a mechanical problem
A group of whale watchers was rescued Tuesday near Bowen Island, in the Strait of Georgia, after the ship had engine malfunction.
According to Wild Whales Vancouver, the incident occurred around noon on his 42-foot vessel, the MV Jing Yu.
Unconfirmed reports indicate that there could be an engine fire, which has triggered calls to the Canadian Coast Guard.

Zoe Ward, a company staff member, said the 33 pbadengers and two crew members on board had been removed from the boat and had landed in Vancouver.
The engines are thought to have overdrived and stopped working. "So we had fumes," but no flames, Ward said.
