The mediation between Gateway Casinos and the BC Government and Service Employees Union broke down on Saturday.
"Gateway continues to say publicly that it wants its members to come back to work but in camera," said Doug Kinna, executive vice president of BCGEU, in a press release

Workers picketed at Gateway casinos in Kelowna, Kamloops, Vernon and Penticton since leaving their jobs on June 29th.
Gateway Casinos released an open letter to Thomson Okanagan communities In the afternoon, union leadership is disconnected from community dynamics and the local market.
"After the union waited a week and a half to return to mediation, it still proposed wage increases of over 40 per cent, major increases in benefits and pensions, for example, they proposed Pay over $ 20 an hour for positions like cashiers, guest services and restaurants.These are just not reasonable rate hikes for a company, including ours. "
The letter further stated that the casino was disappointed that the union had terminated the mediation earlier than expected and that no other date was set aside.While Gateway Casinos is open to negotiations, they insist that the union "… is preparing to stay at the table to negotiate a reasonable proposal."
