Weekend temperatures could reach mid-thirties, warns Environment Canada

Environment Canada released a special weather report for much of the south coast of British Columbia on Friday, with temperatures in parts of the province expected to increase in the 1930s.

Temperatures are expected to peak in the 20's 30's in communities near the coast, including Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond and New Westminster.

The senior dailies could reach the mid-1930s further inland, the agency warned. Whistler, the east side of Vancouver Island and parts of the southern interior.

"While warm, sunny conditions are welcome, Environment and Climate Change Canada and the Medical Officers of Health remind residents to take precautions to protect themselves from heat," read the statement.

Residents are encouraged to drink plenty of water and stay cool by spending time in air-conditioned facilities, wearing loose and light clothing as well as sun protection by wearing hats, sunscreen and sunglbades.

It is also important to check that people who live alone do not suffer from heat-related illnesses, the agency added.
