A man was run over to death by his own car at a McDonald’s drive-thru in Vancouver in what police called a “heart-wrenching” freak accident.
The man, who has not been identified by police, was at the Main Street fast-food restaurant around 5:30 a.m. when officials said he got out of his car to retrieve something, the police reported. Société Radio-Canada.
But the vehicle rolled forward and slammed him against the building, crushing him.
“Efforts were made by first responders to revive the man, but he tragically died at the scene,” Vancouver police officer Tania Visintin told CBC. “This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this man.”
According to the San Jose Mercury-News, the man dropped his bank card and got out of the car to retrieve it when the accident happened.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Vancouver Police Department’s Collision Unit and the BC Coroner’s Office.
