The Audi RS6 Avant is the long roof of dreams and is a new car much sought after by opportunists are already running to earn money quickly. Dig into the sales history of some of the low mileage examples now available, and you’ll learn something surprising: it’s not just lone wolf predators playing in the market. Canadian dealers are also participating in the flipping game.
No wonder the fins are on the case. The RS6 Avant, a highway stormer and occasional track toy, incorporates a 591 horsepower V8, quattro all-wheel drive and Audi technology into a package that increases your heart rate just by looking at it.
As Road and track discovered, Canadian dealers were among the first to acquire inventory of the RS6 wagon. Some of these dealers have decided to return them to auction. These wagons, now technically used cars, were sent across the border to US dealerships. The practice seems smart enough – Canadian dealers have made their profit without any bargaining with a customer.
Check Cars.com for used RS6 Avants and you will see a lot of advertisements for more than a sticker. Some of these cars have so few kilometers that you would think their owners drove them home and immediately put them up for sale. But CarFax checks will reveal that many of these cars were first registered in Canada before ending up at a dealership in the United States. Take this beautiful example for sale in Wisconsin:
G / O Media can get a commission
Its CarFax indicates of them previous owners in Ontario despite only 154 miles on his odometer.
Note that buying a recent vehicle from Canada can be headaches. Even though these are the same cars you can buy here, sometimes they have VINs that won’t show up in a DMV system. Some dealers won’t even touch cars that come from Canada, Car and driver reports.
While the flipping of the RS6 Avants from Canadian dealers probably made sense at launch, it doesn’t now. Check it New box on Cars.com and you will find more new cars around the sticker than used ones. So there is really no reason to buy a low mile, but still technically used RS6 Avant that had two or three previous owners.
