NEW YORK – The return of Robinson Cano in training has lasted four times, and the New York Mets are again facing questions regarding their management of a star player's injury.
Cano was pulled out of the New York game on Wednesday night against the San Francisco Giants a few hours after coming off the injured list, limping because of the contraction of the left quadriceps two weeks after initially contracting the muscle.
Cano scored two hits on the floor in two hits, including a double play ending with a run-off with goals loaded in the third. He preferred that his left leg ascend to the finish line and was beaten to the bag by about a step. Adeiny Hechavarria replaced him at the second base to start the fifth.
Cano, 36, said he did not think he needed to return to the injured list, but he will be assessed Thursday again before New York decides.
