The FBI on Monday announced charges against other suspected attackers on Capitol Hill, including a Texan member of a far-right militia.
Federal authorities previously unveiled criminal charges against dozens of people accused of storming Capitol Hill in a pro-Trump riot on Jan.6. Reffitt was allegedly a member of the Texas Freedom Force militia and threatened to shoot his children if they became “traitors” who denounced him.
Reffitt, the Texas man arrested for his alleged involvement in the attack, also had extremist ties, the FBI said. Reffitt witnessed the riot in a helmet fitted with a camera and what appeared to be a tactical vest, according to images included in documents filed in court.
According to prosecutors, Reffitt was with the Texas Freedom Fighters, an activist group that lobbies to protect Confederate symbols, and has spent the past few weeks on Twitter accusing the left of being the real rioters.
Reffitt reportedly admitted to his family that he was involved in the attacks, telling the family that “we” (probably the TFF, according to a criminal record) “stormed the Capitol.” He also reportedly told his family that he brought a gun with him to DC.
Reffitt’s children were reportedly “disturbed” by his “extreme” statements. When they expressed their concern, he reportedly told them that “if you report me, you are a traitor and you know what happens to traitors … traitors get shot.”
His wife provided information about the fight to investigators.
Moncada, 20, is a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, Gothamist reported. Like others arrested in the attack, Moncada is said to have live streamed his actions in the Capitol and posted on Instagram about his involvement in “the storm,” a term popular with fans of the conspiracy theory. far right QAnon. Moncada is the last of several men arrested in New York in connection with the riots.
