Captain Marvel's cat actors had trouble playing with skulls

Because Goose plays a vital role in Captain MarvelIn the story of this film, it was necessary to invite four feline performers on the film set to capture the full range of Goose's feline emotions. Some scenes featuring Goose, like when the cat first met Nick Fury, were easy to shoot, but others, like those involving the Skrulls, were another story.

While talking to Vulture about the four cats that represent Goose in Captain MarvelUrsula Brauner, an animal trainer, explained that while cats are used to interacting with people who look like humans, actors in makeup and prosthetics as drastic as the Skrulls in the film have sometimes been a problem. If a person does not look exactly like a the person, animals do not always know how to respond to it at the right time and it can upset scenes:

It was one of our challenges because they look so different from people. Ben Mendelsohn was so amazing to familiarize cats with costume and makeup. He showed them how he moved and sounded, and it was really great to make cats love.

I remember being in a quad-jet in a very tight space, and Ben does not look like a human being in his suit. Reggie was a little deployed.[[[[Captain Marvel directors Anna Boden and Ryan Fleck]We took the time to say: "Let's stop what we do and put the cat at ease." Reggie was sitting in a chair, and Ben was sitting on the chair next to him and we let Reggie join him and explore on his own, and soon he realized that Ben was like us, but he just had the # Looks different. It's taking the time to stop. And this is displayed on the screen.

One would imagine that it would not have been too difficult to simply rely on a little more CGI to capture an onscreen chat behavior that did not rely on live animals having to get used to watching bands. 'aliens, but that would probably have exhausted some of the organic feeling energy of the movie that makes one of the Captain MarvelThe most convincing characters. We are pleased that everyone has made additional efforts.
