Car dives into river after crash on Dames Point Bridge

JACKSONVILLE, Florida – A car crossed the side of the concrete wall of the Dames Point Bridge following an accident with another car in the southbound lanes, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

The accident happened around 8:45 p.m.

Troopers said the driver of the 27-year-old vehicle who rolled over the side was able to exit his vehicle and suffered only minor injuries. The vehicle landed in only about 5 to 6 feet of water.

The second driver was not injured.

All southbound lanes on I-295 were closed for an hour as JFRD lifted the driver out of the water and police cleaned up the scene. All lanes reopened around 9:40 p.m.
