CHICAGO (WLS) – Two suspects have been charged with a violent attempted hijacking that resulted in the death of a Vietnam War veteran, Chicago police said Friday.

Police said an adult and a minor were responsible for the beatings that led to Keith Cooper’s death.

Frank Harris, 18, is charged with murder and hijacking and a 17-year-old boy has been charged with first degree murder.

Both were arrested shortly after police said they tried to hijack Cooper, 73, a Vietnamese veteran who stopped in Hyde Park on Wednesday for groceries on his way to his daughter’s home.

Police said the two suspects asked for Cooper’s car and then beat him. Her daughter said the beating caused a heart attack and the death of her father.

Witnesses who fought the two suspects helped police locate them.

They never left with Cooper’s car, but police believe they were the one who took his life.
