The mayor of a small town in Alabama apologizes after apparently recommending to "kill" LGBTQ community members in a Facebook message now deleted.
Carbon Hill Mayor Mark Chambers responded to a comment on his original message, which read in all capital letters: "We live in a society where homosexuals read us about morality, transvestites read us about human biology, Killer babies read us about human rights and socialists give us lessons in economics! "
In a subsequent comment, the mayor wrote: "The only way to change it would be to remove the problem.I know it's bad to say, but without [sic] to kill them, there is no way to fix it. "
Chambers' comments come just as the country launches Pride Month.
In a phone call with the station, Chambers initially denied writing the post. He then backtracked, admitting that he was responsible for it and adding that he was thinking of sending a private message and not a public message.
The post, which was deleted, was originally reported by the Birmingham WBRC television channel.

Chambers asserted that he "had never said anything about slaughtering gays," but that "there is a revolution happening in this country, both sides of this population will be killed ".
On Tuesday, Chambers apologized on Facebook: "Although I think my comment was taken out of context and was not aimed at the LGBTQ community, I knew it was wrong to say that anyone should be killed [sic]. "
A call and an email to the city clerk's office were not immediately returned.
