Cardinals get veteran quarterback after signing Colt McCoy

The Cardinals have their starting quarterback, and it has been a given for some time.

Now they have a veteran reinforcement – and a potential No.2, based on how the No.2 grew last year.

Colt McCoy, who has been in the league since Cleveland drafted him in the third round in 2010, signed a one-year contract with the Cardinals on Wednesday afternoon. While Kyler Murray is the undisputed starter behind center, McCoy plans to compete with Chris Streveler – the 2020 No.2 – for the highest point on the depth map.

It was a great day for McCoy. Not only did he sign his contract, but before flying to Arizona he was there for the birth of his fourth child.

McCoy played for the Browns, 49ers, Washington and Giants in his 11 seasons. Last year he was Daniel Jones’ replacement in New York.

He started 30 of the 44 games he’s played in his career, with a completion percentage of 60.7, 6,455 yards, 30 touchdowns and 28 interceptions and a QB rating of 78.1.
