Carmelo Anthony made his highly anticipated debut for the Los Angeles Lakers on Thursday and, as expected, it wasn’t long before the 10-time All-Star stalled for his new team.
For his very first basket as a Lakers member, Melo emptied a classic sweater over the outstretched arms of Phoenix Suns defenseman Jae Crowder (h / t Lakers on Twitter):

This is a typical Carmelo Anthony bucket of isolation and his first two points for the Lakers couldn’t have come more appropriately. There will certainly be more where this came from as Anthony looks to establish himself as a key player in LA in 2020-21.
Unfortunately for Melo, his high-profile debut came in a 117-105 loss to the Suns. Anthony started for head coach Frank Vogel, recording 17 minutes on his debut. The 37-year-old veteran finished with eight points on 4 of 10 shots to go along with two rebounds and an assist.
It’s now two straight preseason losses for the Lakers following Sunday’s blowout against the Brooklyn Nets. They’ll be looking to record their first W of the preseason when they return to action against the Golden State Warriors. It looks like LeBron James and Russell Westbrook could debut for this one as well.
