Carnival is capping its cruises to just seven days – at least for now.
The cruise line has confirmed that all trips from US ports, which last more than a week, are currently “closed for sale” according to the latest guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) amid the coronavirus pandemic in progress.
The CDC’s conditional navigation order framework, introduced on October 30, stipulates that cruise operators must not offer crossings longer than seven days.
“We are continuing discussions with the CDC regarding the Oct. 30 order that sets out the conditions under which cruising to the United States can resume,” a spokesperson for Carnival said. (iStock)

“We are continuing discussions with the CDC over the Oct. 30 order that sets out the conditions under which cruising to the United States can resume, including a proposed 7-day cap on itineraries,” writes a spokesperson of Carnival in a statement shared with Fox News. “At this time, we have closed for sale all cruises of 8 days or more departing from the United States. We have taken no further action on these cruises and will notify customers and travel agents once we make decisions on these itineraries. ”
On its website, Carnival has also ceased such crossings out of U.S. ports until at least October 31, 2021, as CruiseRadio.net and Cruise Critic first noted.
Longer crossings from non-US ports remain available for reservation.

The CDC’s conditional navigation order also outlines a number of other mandates, including meeting screening, testing and hygiene standards, among other requirements.
“We have made it clear that shipping should not resume until cruise lines have demonstrated that they can significantly mitigate the risk of exposure and spread of COVID-19,” said Dr Robert Redfield, director of the CDC, in a press release issued at the time of the Conditional.
