Carrie Underwood Reflects On Singing With Her Son, 5, On Christmas Album: ‘Such A Gift’

Carrie Underwood appears to have another singer in the family – her 5-year-old son Isaiah.

Grammy winner and debut duet for “Little Drummer Boy” on her very first full Christmas album, “My Gift”, and the experience is something Underwood will never forget.

The former “American Idol” winner, 37, told Parade magazine that she was open-minded and didn’t want to pressure Isaiah.

“I walked in and started recording this song and recorded it myself and kinda like we were there, I was like, ‘Okay, I have this crazy idea and this might not not work and he might not even want to do but what if he came and sang with me? ”she explained.

“And I think everyone thought, oh, yeah, he can just sort of, you know, sing along with you.” And in my brain it was a real duo. So I’m like, ‘No, here’s my idea, throw it with me and it might not work at all and it’s fine, but we can try, because that’s just who I think about when I sing this song. Her little face comes to mind. So we brought him in and he did such a good job. And to have this moment with him and share it with him… and I have it now and forever. I have his little voice. It’s going to be with me forever. I can listen to it anytime I want and it’s such a gift in and of itself, ”Underwood said.

The “Cry Pretty” singer added how she just lets her son explore his creative side and doesn’t force him to pursue music.

“There is no expectation,” she admitted. “I feel like my husband [Mike Fisher] and I both have careers in amazing fields, you know we want him to be his own person for sure, but I would definitely support him being musical and maybe not singing , it can play something or be behind the scenes of the sort of thing. But whichever way he takes, I have a feeling we will support him and just want him to give it all. “

Fisher is a retired professional hockey player. The two tied the knot in 2010 and also share a second son together, Jacob, one year old.

Underwood does not know how his family will spend the Christmas holidays amid the coronavirus pandemic. She is extremely grateful that everyone is safe and healthy this year.

“We’re hoping to travel, but we’re just not sure like everyone else. So we’re going to take things one holiday at a time and, you know, once again understand and hope things are going to get better.” , she revealed.

At home in Tennessee, she loves decorating the tree with her boys and baking gingerbread cookies based on her late grandmother’s recipe.
