Ric Ocasek, the singer of the iconic rock band Cars The Cars, was found dead in his Manhattan apartment Sunday, police sources told The Post. He was 70 years old.
Ocasek was found unconscious and insensitive to 16:14. Paulina Porizkova, his ex-wife, said inside his Gramercy Park headquarters, sources said.
He seemed to have died of natural causes, sources added.
Ocasek and her flagship new band, The Cars, came up with their 1978 hit album, which featured hits such as "My Best Friend's Girl" and "Just What I Needed".
The singer reflected on his years in the band when he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame last year.
"It's definitely a wonderful feeling to be accepted by peers and to see the people who are in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, who is inducted, it's a positive feeling that you get ", said Ocasek in an interview with Rolling Stone.
From 1978 to 1987, the group recorded six records, including "five good to excellent," Erik Adams, music critic at the AV Club, said in a 2018 article.
"And then there's The Cars, the kind of band that released a perfect first album, and then had the audacity not to put it away after that," the reviewer wrote.
In 1984, the group received another notable distinction, winning MTV's "Video of the Year" award for the hit song for its fifth album, "You Might Think".
After a long break, the group met in 2011 and released an album entitled "Move Like This". It was the band's first and only album without bassist Benjamin Orr, who died in 2000.
Ocasek had recently placed the house where he had been found on the market after he and Porizkova announced their split in May 2018.
The couple, who shared two children, had been together for 28 years when they separated.
