Carson Wentz Trade Rumors: Bears Get ‘Impatient’ When Talking With Eagles

The Chicago Bears are said to be “growing impatient “with trade talks involving Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Carson Wentz, according to Mike Kaye of NJ.com, and”think the Eagles overvalued Wentz. ”

A person familiar with trade negotiations between the Eagles and teams interested in Wentz said those teams had “remained ‘disciplined’ in the negotiations, unwilling to respond to the Eagles’ demands,” according to the report.

The price asking the Eagles, according to a source on the team, was ridiculous, laughable and not worth countering. Until they lower their expectations, depending on player and contract uncertainty, their initial price will never be obtained.

According to this report, the Wentz trading market has “cooled down” somewhat after the weekend buzz suggesting a deal could be struck.

“They don’t want to give up (Wentz) for much less than (Matthew Stafford transport),” a source told Kaye.

The Detroit Lions received two first-round picks, a third-round pick and Jared Goff from the Los Angeles Rams in exchange for Stafford. Part of the reason the Lions received such a transfer, however, was because they were absorbing Goff’s prohibitive contract. In this case, Wentz is the one with the bloated deal.

The Indianapolis Colts, the other team believed to be in contention for Wentz, are said to be looking for “additional compensation – one player, players or picks – with Wentz in order to get closer to the Eagles’ demands. “

Despite a terrible 2020 season, Wentz could represent a great place for teams in the quarterback trade market. He won’t cost nearly as much as a star like Deshaun Watson, but he’ll also offer more perks than players like Marcus Mariota or Sam Darnold.

It would be easy to only see Wentz through the lens of the 16 touchdowns, 15 interceptions and 50 sacks he won in 12 games last season. He was bad. But he’s also the player who threw 33 touchdowns and seven picks in the 2017 season before a knee injury cut it short, ending what looked like an MVP campaign.

That’s the advantage teams like the Bears or Colts will bet on if they pull the trigger on a Wentz trade. And that’s why the Eagles are trying to get the best possible return for the quarterback. The game of poker continues.
