AURORA, Colorado – There are now confirmed cases of chickenpox mumps at the US immigration and customs enforcement contract detention center in Aurora.
The Tri-County Health Department told FOX31 that there was a confirmed case of chickenpox (chicken pox), a confirmed case of mumps and a probable case of mumps.
ICE also said that due to isolated cases, 142 of the 1,279 inmates at Aurora are grouped into cohorts or clustered because they may have been exposed to contagious diseases. The spaces they use are also cleaned.
The Department of Health registers at the ICE facility once a week and administers vaccines to immigrants.
This follows a report that 5,200 inmates in the country may have been exposed to the disease in 39 ICE facilities.
ICE has sent FOX31 the following statement:
"ICE detainees are cohort if they have been exposed to a person confirming the presence of mumps or suggesting mumps and still undergoing an mumps test, or to a person deemed likely by the Ministry of Health to have symptomatic mumps and have been exposed to a person confirmed in the laboratory). The needs or management of asymptomatic inmates exposed to a person with confirmed, probable or suspected mumps are subject to movement restrictions until 25 days have elapsed since the last exposure. All inmates received the MMR vaccine. "
