With Fox’s Prodigal Son returning with its Season 2 premiere on January 12, the series will receive a new addition to the cast later this season.
Catherine Zeta-Jones has signed on for the series regular role of Dr. Vivian Capshaw, according to a press release from Fox.
The 51-year-old actress will work alongside Michael Sheen, who is also from her homeland of Wales, on his debut in the ‘second half of the season’.

The second season will see Sheen’s Dr. Martin Whitly assigned to the infirmary, where he meets Capshaw.
Capshaw, “is delighted to task ‘the surgeon’ with cleaning the bedpans and cleaning the floor,” according to the official description.
Surprisingly, Capshaw sees that Whitley is becoming “invaluable in treating patients” as she begins to “see it in a new light … which is not a good thing”.

Prodigal Son will return for its second season in a new party on Tuesday, Jan.12 at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

The show was the # 1 new series to debut last fall, averaging 9.3 million cross-platform viewers.
The show follows Malcolm Bright (Tom Payne), a criminal profiler with a rare talent for penetrating the minds of killers.
He learned how they think because his father, Martin Whitly, was a notorious serial killer known as “The Surgeon”.

Now he’s using his twisted genius to help the NYPD solve their most puzzling murders.
The show also stars Aurora Perrineau as Detective Dani Powell, JT Tarmel as Detective Frank Harts and Keiko Agena as Medical Examiner Dr. Edrisa Tanaka.
The second season begins with Malcolm trying to take care of his sister Ainsley (Halston Sage) while protecting his mother Jessica (Bellamy Young) from a secret that could tear the family apart.
The season also follows Martin as he “ seeks to deepen his relationship with Bright, his prodigal son, but forging that bond leads to some shocking twists and revelations. ”
