The cause of the Tigers Woods car crash last month has been determined.
However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff said detectives would not release details of the crash Wednesday due to privacy concerns for Woods, who suffered serious injuries in the Feb.23 crash.
Woods is now recovering from several surgeries in Florida.

Woods reached an elevated median around 7 a.m. local time at Rolling Hills Estates, just outside Los Angeles. The car Woods was driving – a Genesis SUV – crossed two oncoming lanes and struck a tree on a downhill section of the road which police say is known to be the cause of many crashes.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the data logger of the 2021 Genesis GV80 SUV, but Sheriff Alex Villanueva did not specify the type of information found in the black box.
“A cause has been determined, the investigation is over,” Villanueva said during a live social media event on Wednesday. He added that investigators needed permission from Woods to release the information.

“We contacted Tiger Woods and his staff,” Villanueva continued. “There are confidentiality issues when disclosing information about the investigation, so we will ask them if they are waiving confidentiality and then we can publish a full publication on all information regarding the accident.”
The Associated Press reported reaching out to Woods’ agent Mark Steinberg, but did not respond to a comment email Wednesday afternoon. According to Greg Risling, a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, no complaints against Woods have been filed with their office regarding Woods and the accident.
“We have all of the black box content, we have everything,” Villanueva said. “It is completed, signed, sealed and delivered. However, we cannot release it without permission from those involved in the collision.”

Villanueva called the accident a “pure accident”. The sheriff has been criticized for some of his past comments, especially after saying there was no evidence of disability.
Woods said he didn’t know how the accident happened and he couldn’t remember driving. When a witness first approached the scene of the crash, Woods was unconscious, but a sheriff’s deputy said Woods was in shock and was able to answer simple questions.

Detectives did not obtain a search warrant for Woods’ blood samples, which would have revealed whether drugs and alcohol were in his system. In 2017, Woods signed up for drug rehab for dealing with prescription drugs after being charged with a DUI in Florida.
Although Woods is recovering, it is uncertain when he will be able to return to golf. Since he was 16 in high school, he never went a full year without playing golf.
