CBP Commissioner Calls New Rule "Game Changer" in the Fight Against Illegal Immigration

The new regulation on Trump administration immigration could potentially change the deal, said Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner (CBP) Mark Fox on Thursday to Fox and his friends.

"That changes the deal … Because of the current settlement agreement with Flores, everyone knows … you catch a child, it's your US passport to the United States because we can not hold you back more than 20 days. "

"It's not long enough to review the immigration procedure – it's a kid's game … This new rule will fix that."

The Trump administration announced on Wednesday that DHS would terminate the court-ordered Flores deal, which bars children from being detained for more than 20 days.

The Flores decision is the result of a case in the 1980s in which Jenny Flores, aged 15, was arrested with adults by federal authorities after fleeing El Salvador. The Flores colony allowed migrant children to be placed in reception programs after 20 days. DHS Acting Secretary Kevin McAleenan said the new rule will replace Flores, while retaining most of its terms. It should come into force in 60 days.

The administration says the measure will allow it to keep families together during their treatment through the US immigration system. Morgan said the federal authorities would probably only increase the length of detention to about 50 days.

"We're talking about 20 to 50 to 60 days in general, it's not indeterminate," he said. "It's just long enough to go through the immigration process."

Morgan also raised the possibility of a court challenge and said he was confident that this decision would be upheld.

"We are going to see legal proceedings … but I hope we will pass this bill," he said. "The American people need to understand, it's a game changer, it must be over, it will absolutely eliminate a significant part of this crisis."
