GREENSBORO, North Carolina (theACC.com) – The Atlantic Coast Conference today announced its 2020-2021 men’s basketball conference schedule. The league slate begins December 12 and ends March 6.

“Our facilities, on the advice of our league’s medical advisory group and public health officials, continue to maintain the measures necessary to compete in a safe and responsible manner,” said CCA Commissioner John Swofford. “ACC Basketball is always greeted with enthusiasm, which is a tribute to the league’s rich tradition of student-athletes, coaches and championship programs. As has been the case throughout the fall, in these unique times we will remain nimble and as prepared as possible should any adjustments become necessary.

For the second year in a row, the conference schedule includes 20 games for each team. Each team will face its two main rivals at home and away (four games) and four other opponents at home and away (eight games). The remaining eight opponents will be singles, four at home and four on the road.

The conference program kicks off Saturday, December 12, with Syracuse playing at Boston College. The 15 CCA teams will play at least one championship game in December, before the holiday season.

Non-conference schedules, game schedules and television designations will be announced when available. Matches for the 2020 ACC / Big Ten Challenge were announced last week. Under NCAA rules, teams can schedule 24 regular season games and participate in a multi-team event (MTE) that consists of up to three games; 25 regular season games and participate in an MTE that includes up to two games; or 25 regular season games if a team does not participate in an MTE.

Any conference match that cannot be played will only be postponed if the schedules of both teams allow it.

The health, safety and well-being of all members of our campus are at the forefront of all decisions and the announcement of the schedule follows several months of discussions and scenario planning between league members and the ACC Medical Advisory Group. The full report of the Medical Advisory Group is available HERE. A revised report from the Winter Sports Medical Advisory Group is expected before the competition begins on November 25.

Four ACC teams are ranked in the Associated Press’s top 25 preseason for the 2020-2021 college basketball season: Virginia (4), Duke (9), North Carolina (16) and Florida State ( 21).

The current 15 ACC member schools have won eight of the last 19 NCAA Championships and 17 in total, including Virginia’s 2019 NCAA First Crown. Current ACC member schools have combined for 64 appearances in the Final Four and 639 top NCAA tournament wins in the country. The League teams combined to win an NCAA record 74 NCAA tournament games in the last five tournaments, highlighted by a 68-29 mark against teams outside of the conference.

Four of the top eight and six of the 30 most successful programs in NCAA Division I basketball history currently reside in the ACC. Three of the six active Division I coaches currently in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame are competing again this season at the ACC – Mike Krzyzewski of Duke, Roy Williams of North Carolina and Jim Boeheim of Syracuse.

The New York Life ACC 2021 tournament is scheduled for March 9-13 at the Capital One Arena in Washington, DC
