CDC hopes Harry Potter, Wonder Woman and Neo can convince people to wear masks

Wearing a mask is one of the easiest things people can do to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is teaming up with WarnerMedia in hopes that Fan favorite characters like Harry Potter, Wonder Woman, The Joker, and Imperator Furiosa can convince people to take a disguise.

The ad, which was created by a partnership between WarnerMedia, the Ad Council and the CDC, features a wide variety of WarnerMedia characters from iconic films – albeit with digitally inserted masks.

Whether it’s heroes (like members of the Fellowship of the Ring or the Justice League) or villains (like the Joker doing his iconic staircase dance), everyone’s going to hide. Even Pennywise’s deadly demon clown It wears a mask – though terrifying, with the face of a clown.

According to Adage, the ad will air across the United States on a given media time, and it is free to broadcast and digital news media. WarnerMedia, of course, will run the ad on its own channels and platforms, including HBO and Turner TV.

Newly released guidelines from the CDC actually recommend doubling masks, with a cloth mask worn over a surgical mask for better protection. Alternatively, the agency recommends that people attach the earrings to their surgical masks so that they fit snugly.

“Let’s go back to our favorite things to do,” the ad read, “whatever it is.”
