Cédric Benson, a former NFL running back and star at the University of Texas, died Saturday night in a motorcycle accident, according to the American newspaper Austin. He was 36 years old.

Benson has the second highest number of rushing yards in Texas Longhorn history with 5,540 yards in four seasons, and his 64 touchdowns are also the second in the history of the program. In 2004, he won the Doak Walker Award as the best ball in college football. He became the No. 4 Chicago Bears pick in the 2005 NFL Draft.
It took several years before Benson met with success in the NFL. He had 1,593 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns in three seasons with the Bears before signing with the Bengals.
In 2009, in his second season with Cincinnati, Benson finally broke through with 1,251 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He then completed two more 1000 yard seasons and at least six touchdowns in each of those years. He played for the last time with the Packers in 2012.
