Celebrities React to Best Oscar Winning "Green Paper" 2019 – Variety

Spike Lee was the first of many celebrities to express his dissatisfaction with the final results of the 2019 Academy Awards, during which the biggest prize of the night for the best image was awarded to "Green Book".

The film directed by Peter Farrelly, starring Mahershala Ali and Viggo Mortensen, sparked controversy throughout the awards season. Lee, whose film "BlacKkKlansman" was also in the running for the best picture, won the Oscar for best screenplay adapted. After Julia Roberts announced the "Green Book" as winner, Lee was seen shaking her arms angrily before attempting to leave the theater, but was arrested at the gates and forced to return to her seat for the remainder of the ceremony .

Behind the scenes, Lee told reporters that he thought the Academy had made a "bad call" and then commented while drinking champagne: "It's my sixth glass and you know why .
