Celtics must fire Brad Stevens to save their season

It has been a roller coaster season for the Boston Celtics. Combined with injuries, safety protocols and poor rotations, the team didn’t get a chance to race in the Eastern Conference. Head coach Brad Stevens is currently in the hot seat for Boston’s struggles. The more his team struggles, the more likely it is that Stevens will be replaced as head coach.

For the majority. Stevens did a tremendous job developing the Celtics back into true contenders. The pressure was on him to change the dynamics of the organization after the three great eras of Boston. In Stevens’ eight seasons as head coach of the Celtics, he was 333-263 with three appearances in the Eastern Conference Finals. The question has recently been, what’s next for Stevens as a leader on the sidelines? Is he the key to helping Boston win a championship? So far this season, that has not been the case.

The Celtics are certainly struggling with injuries. The problem is, Stevens seems unable to motivate his players to play well. Looking at the Celtics on the floor, the team has not been on the same page on both sides. The chemistry issues have been on Stevens as he hasn’t made sure his players are locked up. The terrible ground play has also spilled over into the locker room, where Stevens also doesn’t seem to be in control.

The Celtics should potentially consider sacking Brad Stevens and signing a new head coach. As a historic organization, a team can only wait for a coach to deliver a championship before it is too late. Stevens appeared to take this step recently. As Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown continue to evolve as franchise players, having the right coach is necessary to take them to the NBA Finals. Sadly, Stevens has failed to make a final appearance in eight seasons. As the Celtics have teams like Brooklyn and others on their way, their chances of exiting the East are slim to none at this point.

The next head coach who comes for the Celtics needs to understand the importance of valued players on this team. Using actors around the stars is one of the important factors for success. Players of Robert Williams, Payton Pritchard and others can make a huge contribution to Boston when they get the chance. As the second half of the NBA season is underway, the cast should be used more to help the Celtics return to the winner’s column. It’s probably impossible for Boston to land a seed with the way they’ve struggled. But there’s still a chance the team can end the season with some momentum in their favor.

Brad Stevens and Danny Ainge seem to have a great working relationship. But as Ainge is known to be, he shows no fear in making business decisions that will benefit the franchise. Brad Stevens’ tenure in Boston is set to end. As the two Celtics stars continue to grow and mature, Boston’s front office should find a coach who understands what it takes to lead a team to an NBA championship.
