At CES 2021, Lenovo released a new ThinkPad detachable device, the X12 Detachable. Billed as the first ThinkPad detachable device released in a few years, Lenovo said the supply was created because of customer demand for detachable devices.
The ThinkPad X12 Detachable comes with an Intel 11th Gen UP4 chipset, 12.4 inch FHD display, Wi-Fi 6, removable folio keyboard, and uses the same magnetic pen as the X1 Titanium Yoga.
The announcement of the ThinkPad X12 Detachable at CES 2021 came with the release of the rest of Lenovo’s ThinkPad lineup, including the latest iteration of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon. The X1 Carbon got an 11th gen Intel 10nm processor, along with minor changes like a slightly larger 110mm touchpad, the addition of Dolby Voice, and the relocation of the fingerprint reader to the power button.
It also has a new single bar hinge system and uses two fans instead of one, which Lenovo says improves the ventilation and heat capacity of the laptop while reducing fan noise.
Lenovo also unveiled the ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga, which was touted as the company’s flagship convertible laptop for this year and the thinnest convertible the company has ever offered.
The ThinkPad X1 Titanium Yoga is 11.5mm thick, weighs 1.15kg, and comes with a 13.5-inch QHD display. It will sport an Intel 11th Gen Core chip, integrated Iris Xe graphics, two Thunderbolt 4.0 ports, four microphones, and an attached magnetic pen. Its main appeal is having a screen with 360-degree flexibility, Lenovo said.
All of this year’s ThinkPad models will ship with the 5G option. The 5G for these laptops will however be lower than 6GhZ 5G and will not be capable of mmWave speeds.
Lenovo also said that this year’s ThinkPad models all have human presence detection – the ability to log in without touching the laptop through Windows Hello – and improved blue light levels over previous models.
The Chinese company also unveiled the ThinkReality A3, a new pair of smart glasses. The glasses aim to “transform work at all levels” through virtual displays, 3D visualization.

In announcing the product, Lenovo said it was focusing on flexibility when developing eyewear so that they can be “immersive but not insulating”. According to Lenovo, the industrial edition of eyewear makes it possible to carry out work in factories, laboratories, as well as in retail and hospitality spaces.
Lenovo used CES 2020 last year to unveil the ThinkPad X1 Fold, a foldable PC that took four years to develop and underwent six designs before launching late last year.
