Chadwick Boseman Receives Posthumous Acting Award Nomination

The awards season, as it is this year, officially kicked off Thursday with the first notable film nominations yet to be announced in a film year marked by a pandemic. The Gotham Awards, presented by the Independent Filmmaker Project, nominated five films, all directed by women, for Best Feature, and a posthumous nod to Chadwick Boseman.

Kelly Reichardt’s ‘First Cow’ led all films in the nominations for the 30th Gotham Awards with four nods, including Best Picture, Best Screenplay, Best Actor for John Magaro and Breakthrough Actor for Orion Lee. The film, a western fable about two aimless travelers in the 1820s Oregon Territory, was released in theaters by A24 in early March, shortly before theaters nationwide closed, and on video on demand in July. .

Alongside Boseman and Magaro, the interim nominees are: Riz Ahmed (“Sound of Metal”), Jude Law (“The Nest”) and Jesse Plemons (“I’m Thinking of Ending Things”).
