Chang’e -5 displays Chinese national flag on the moon

China’s National Space Administration on Friday released an image showing the Chinese national flag flown from the Chang’e-5 probe to the moon before takeoff. The images were taken by a panoramic camera installed on the probe’s landing-ascender combination before the ascender took off from the moon.

This is the first time that China has displayed a real fabric national flag on the moon.

What is the special feature of the flag?

Made of a special material, the flag weighs only 12 grams.

It also requires a special system to display the flag. Researchers have worked hard to fine tune the equipment and minimize its weight to finally 1 kilogram.
