For the past two years, the Arena Playlist has been Fortnite’s primary gateway to competitive gaming. It is used to gain access to valuable tournaments and is, to the frustration of many, the closest thing to a ranked mode.

The preseason is intended to give players the opportunity to test out any new game elements, mechanics and features that may be introduced, and to provide feedback to the developers.

At this time, it is unclear exactly how this feedback will be obtained. Potentially, Epic could open up a dialogue with a select group of professionals and analysts, or they can just use emails or in-game surveys.

If executed correctly, it could help avoid previous issues like overpowered Mythic loot and unnecessary AI characters that make them competitive matches. Either way, it’s definitely a huge step in the right direction.

While this might seem trivial to people outside of OCE, it’s a sign that the developers are actively looking for ways to improve the arena experience. Of course, this may just be an attempt to cut wait times, but it could lead to bigger changes in the future.

Much of the community agrees that Arena has been waiting for a complete overhaul for a long time. Under the current system, an individual’s rank hardly reflects their true competence, and there is almost no incentive to play in the “appropriate competitive manner”.
