With Sony’s PlayStation 5 offering still quite scarce around the world, gamers in Tokyo jumped at a recent opportunity to get their hands on the next-gen console.
Earlier this week, Akihabara’s Yodobashi Camera received a large shipment of PS5 which caused chaos when it was released. Standing as one of the biggest electronics stores in Japan, the sale saw around 300 admissions of first come, first served tickets for a chance to buy a PS5. Many people are also joining the insanity because Yodobashi Camera’s Akihabara location does not require customers to hold their black credit card to purchase the console, a requirement created to ban resellers.
The crowds that had gathered at the scene started pushing and pushing, forcing the checkouts and staff to be pushed back. In the end, local police were called in and canceled the sale due to the aggressive nature that erupted amid the Japanese government-issued coronavirus state of emergency.
