Chargers ask to interview Jason Garrett in Coach Search

Jason Garrett is back on the NFL coaching carousel.

The Chargers, who fired coach Anthony Lynn on Monday, have requested an interview with the Giants’ offensive coordinator over their vacancy, according to NFL Network.

Garrett, 54, spent 10 seasons as head coach of the Cowboys before he was not brought back after last season. He went 85-67, but made just three playoff appearances before joining Joe Judge’s staff this season. Garrett has experience in mentoring young quarterbacks such as Dak Prescott and Daniel Jones. The Chargers have one of the best young callers in the NFL at Justin Herbert.

Garrett leaving to take a head coaching job could make one of the Giants’ toughest decisions this offseason. There is speculation the team could move past Garrett after leading an attack that placed second-to-last in the NFL in total yards and runs scored ahead of just the Jets. He also didn’t help Jones take a leap forward in his second season.

The Jets have asked to interview Giants defensive coordinator Patrick Graham.
