When the Los Angeles Chargers face off against the Detroit Lions on Sunday, they could miss four of their usual starters in attack.

Left striker Russell Okung is absent for medical reasons. Running back Melvin Gordon is still waiting for a contract or a new contract. The half hung Hunter Henry is indefinitely with yet another serious injuryand now it is doubtful that wide receiver Mike Williams is available to play against Keenan Allen.

Former first-round pick, Williams was forced to leave the opening game of Sunday's season against the Colts of Indianapolis due to a knee injury. He walked on his own after the match, in which he caught two passes from Philip Rivers and apparently told the media that his knee had just tightened. Coach Anthony Lynn announced that the recipient would be screened for the disease. Tomorrow, he was asked if he was concerned about Williams' availability for the second week. Lynn did not mince words.

"Absolutely," says Lynn, by reports. "We signed a wide receiver, just in case, I do not know."

The Chargers have actually added what appears to be the depth of the emergency receiver Wednesday, announcing the addition of untreated product Anthony Johnson to their training team. Johnson, who spent the off-season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, could still be promoted in the lineup before Sunday's game in Detroit. Travis Benjamin, Dontrelle Inman and Geremy Davis would be interested in seeing the extended play time alongside Allen at WR if Williams was to be dismissed.

A former star of Clemson, Williams has already suffered significant injuries. In 2015, while he was still in college, he broke a bone around his neck and missed all but one season's games. He also missed the first six games of the 2017 season with the Chargers after having a herniated disc prior to the training camp.
