Charges laid against woman who shot a Chicago officer

Chicago police said a 19-year-old woman was facing an attempted murder and other charges in the murder of an officer executing a warrant.

Police said Sunday in a press release that Emily Petronella was also charged with aggravated assault against a peace officer, armed violence when using a firearm , of aggravated assault against a peace officer and to have sold more than 5,000 grams of cannabis. She is also facing a breach of the bond.

Petronella was scheduled to appear in court on Sunday. It was not clear if she had a lawyer who could comment on the allegations.

Police said Petronella had shot in the door Saturday night, hitting a 34-year-old officer in the shoulder. The officer should recover.
